With some luck and a lot of passion I have been able to develop into a singer, percussionist, harpist and guitarist. 20 years traveling as a pilgrim through the musical landscapes and wherever I am, I immerse myself.
Little bites of reviews about Wieke Garcia as a solo-artis
Wieke is a blessed vocalist who always puts her virtuosity at the service of music. Over the years she trained herself on harp and percussion. And not only in terms of rhythm and sound does it impose any restrictions. With great ease she knows how to seduce the listener in her musical adventure.
Wieke Garcia leads her listeners on an exciting journey to very different worlds at the first a link to jazz, which she manages to connect with different styles in only one song in a completely natural way. It shows courage to leave such stubborn footprints in a world in which music often quickly becomes uniform. Most of the songs were composed by Wieke and the rest supplemented with the most beautiful traditionals from different directions.
Biography Wieke Garcia
As a singer, harpist, percussionist and composer I have been playing in theaters for many years. My very first performance in a theater was in Carré, Amsterdam with Herman van Veen during my first year at the Rotterdam Conservatory where I studied vocals and Latin-American percussion. In the years that followed I developed myself into a multi-instrumentalist to accompany myself on my musical journey.
I also traveled through the Dutch theaters with 2 solo performances.
Liaison is about the connection between human and nature. The Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa was a great source of inspiration, I have set many poems to music.
After Liaison s is Wieke’s World
This is what the Leeuwarder Courant wrote, which, in my opinion, has managed to describe my music well:
“Wieke is a blessed vocalist who always puts her virtuosity at the service of the music. Over the years she taught herself harp and percussion. And it is not only in terms of rhythm and sound that she imposes no restrictions on herself. With great ease she seduces the listener in her musical adventure.
Wieke Garcia leads her listeners on an exciting journey to very different worlds, initially a link to jazz, which she manages to connect in a completely natural way with different styles in just one song. It shows courage to leave such persistent footprints in a world where music often quickly becomes uniform.”
‘…Whoever hears Wieke play quickly gets associations with that other world traveler in music,
Nynke Laverman. Just like her, Wieke’s hunger for musical experiments and combinations can hardly be satisfied. Wieke takes her listeners on an exciting journey to worlds that seem very different at first hearing, which she sometimes manages to connect in a completely natural way in just one song…’It shows courage to live in a world in which music often quickly becomes uniform, leaving such idiosyncratic footprints. Wieke Garcia is the place to be if you want to fully experience an exciting mix of world music.

In addition, I have released 3 CDs and 2 EP’s with my own compositions;

Corona
Since the deafening silence of the pandemic, I have embarked on an adventurous journey in my music recording studio Aurora’s Garden. How does the harp sound together with voice? Which rhythms and instruments are suitable for this? Which lyrics come to mind while composing? The new pieces fit together like a puzzle to create a new musical experience.
Harp
During the tour with Herman van Veen through the German and Dutch theater, the unexpected news came on March 12, 2021 that the theaters were closed immediately. Just before that moment I had bought my dream harp. Camac’s electro-acoustic grand concert pedal harp; The Big Blue. A modern, adventurous harp with many possibilities in terms of sound and playing.
After years of studying the harp- I’ve been playing the harp since I was nine – around the world, like the West African Kora, Latin American harp, from Madagascar, Old Egypt and many others. I add these worldly harp sounds to my music. To merge new styles and sounds into a whole new musical experience.
Vocals and fado
During my studies I got to know Dulce Pontes, her amazing voice and the beautiful national style the fado. It felt like a spiritual connection that needed to be researched. Together with my new harp I discovered a special connection. The epic, warm, dramatic dynamics of the harp together with intense and expressional melody’s I believe this to be a unique unity.
